In a way it seems like I just started training for the Half Marathon and then on the other hand it seems like I have been training for a long time. As race day approaches various parts of the training are ending. Last night was our last group run. Since I am still not organized from my move over the weekend, I had no idea how many miles we were running yesterday. Would it be 5 miles or 7 miles? I did find out before the run that it was only 4 miles we were running. No problem.
For the first time in many weeks, it actually felt cooler when I was running. There was even a breeze during parts of the run which I welcomed. For the Wednesday runs, I run with the pace group behind mine. Even though the runners are nice in this pace group, I still feel like a visitor. The dynamics of each pace group is so different. You become really close to the runners in your group.
I have also found that runners who don’t always show up on Saturdays don’t seem to get the dynamics of that pace group and might not enjoy the run. I found out yesterday about one of these runners who got upset with my pace group because we were going faster at times than our pace a couple of weeks ago. If this happens, you just need to tell the pace leaders that you think they are going a little too fast. You don’t need to be bitchy about it like this runner was. No one goes faster on purpose but it is just human nature to sometimes get this burst of energy to go faster. Personally, I don’t need to hear negativity during a run so I am glad this runner didn’t show up last week with our group to run.
Tonight is also my last run as a group leader at RAM. Next Wednesday is the Terrapin 5K race which is the race the training was leading up to. It will be good for me to get my miles in next Thursday during the race and also to get into the whole race atmosphere in preparation for the Half Marathon.
As a result of my move, my internet connection is still not working at home. This technology malfunction has hindered my ability to blog when I need to. Hopefully, I will get this issue resolved over the weekend.
Hi, Helen! I'm surprised that you weren't aware of that lady who kept complaining. She kept voicing her opinions to several members of the group (including me). Argh! It was for the 10 mi run and it was so distracting. She also mentioned that she had a better experience with another organization's running group. She was quite a downer!
Anyway, love your blog. See you tomorrow!
