I hadn’t been out the office all day so when I left work it felt like I entered a sauna. It was so hot and humid outside. I was concerned about the weather since I was going to the lake for the mid-week run. My new routine is to park closer to the lake in the morning so when I get off the train I don’t have to drive far to the running meeting site. When I got to the lakefront, I couldn’t find any parking. This has never happened to me in the evening. I made a loop around all the parking about 2 times and then decided my only option was to park in the paid parking lot/
By the time I parked my car, I was too late to run with the group so I just started to run by myself. As I was running, I realized that it was so crowded at the beach because people probably wanted to cool down by going in the water. Let me just say that running in the heat by yourself is not fun. At about 7 p.m., it was still about 90 degrees. I felt like telling someone to turn off the heat outside.
I would not be running in this weather if I didn’t have race in 2 ½ weeks. Let me tell you after running about ½ mile, I was ready to just stop and go back but I kept on going. The good news is that I caught up with another pace group at the turnaround point and ran back with them. This made the time go by faster. My pace through the run was slower than usual because I didn’t want to overdue it in this heat.
On the drive back home, I thought I would take a different route. The route didn’t really get me home any faster but at least it was a change of scenery. The highlight of my drive home was seeing this huge Target with an escalator. I have never seen one with an escalator before. I guess in the suburbs you have the room for a store to be just one story and in the city, you build up instead of out.
On my running nights, after having some dinner, there really isn’t much of an evening left for me. I also noticed tonight that it is getting darker earlier. At least it will still be awhile before I will have to run in the dark.
