Today I decided to do my running at the lake in the morning since I was off of work. Since it looked dreary outside, I turned on the TV to check the weather forecast for the day. I found out that it was 80 degrees outside at 6:00 a.m. which is really warm for that early in the day. When I got to the lakefront, it felt hot even though it was still cloudy. I decided to do slower pace run because of the heat and made sure to stop along the way to drink water. I ran just less than 6 miles. I really don’t want it to be this hot and humid on race day.
As I was running, I realized that my breathing was so much better than it was a year ago. Last summer, the thing that stopped me from running any great distance was that I felt out of breath so quickly into my run. I think that running at a steady manageable pace has helped. Because of my breathing issues, I pushed my body at a slower pace which probably aided in the fact that I didn’t get hurt.
As I was driving home from the run, I had such a taste for a big steak and thinly sliced fried potatoes. Now, I hardly ever eat steak so having this craving was very unusual. I have learned from the past, if I don’t give in to a strong craving, it won’t go away until I give in. So I went to the store and bought the ingredients that I needed to have for my steak lunch. I must say that the grilled steak tasted fantastic. I enjoyed every bite. Now my craving is satisfied for about the next 6 months.
I think that the 4th of July weekend just brought out these BBQ type cravings to the forefront. Now all I need is an ice cream cone to finish off the holiday weekend.
Hi, Helen! Karen here from your Saturday group. I am so with you on the heat! Took a break from work and ran 4 miles at 9:30am along the lake. The heat and humidity was killing me. :( I actually took 2 brief walking breaks.
