Sometimes my best intentions go array. My intent was to take care of a personal matter after work yesterday and then change clothes for the mid-week run at the lake. The personal business took longer than expected so I wasn’t able to make it in time for the lake run. No problem, I will just do my run when I get home. Once I got home, I ran out of steam and didn’t do my run. My mind was totally focused on a personal matter last night.
Today I felt really guilty about not running yesterday. Actually I was more afraid that my legs couldn’t handle the long run on Saturday if I didn’t run much this week. Since I was leading the group walk/run tonight, I knew I wouldn’t get in all the mileage. The light bulb then went off in my head. I would go to RAM early and do a run before the organized run. So I get to RAM, change and head out to run. It was just before 6:00 p.m. when I started to run. It felt really warm outside and I just started to sweat. I decided to run for about 30 minutes. I wasn’t concerned about distance but just wanted my legs to be in motion for about ½ hour. After my run, I went back to RAM to cool off.
For the walk/run tonight, we ran for 3 minutes and walked for 1 minute for about 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, we covered about 2 miles. Not bad since this training is designed for the runner to be able to run a 5K race. Let me just say this again, I love my Garmin. It is like my little running buddy.
When I got home tonight, I didn’t feel like eating much. I ended up having a glass of milk and some fudge that a neighbor brought back from Wisconsin for us. Not the healthiest meal but then again, there is this race called Hot Chocolate where the big draw is having all this chocolate after the race. Since I had the chocolate 2 days before the Saturday run, the chocolate should be out of my system by then. I don’t want a repeat of last Saturday.
Speaking of food, I was watching Iron Chef on TV as I was writing this post. Chef Simon had a dish that was a lobster roll with French fries fried in duck fat and uni mayonnaise to dunk the fries in. Is there anything better than something fried in duck fat? My mouth was watering at the sight of that meal. It looked so good. Chef Simon will you come to my house and cook for me? I dream of the day that I come home from a run or work and there is a meal prepared for me. I doubt that is ever going to happen in my lifetime unless I move back in with my parents.
One last thing. In case you haven’t heard, LeBron James is going to Miami. Now we can all get back to living our lives.
