I woke up this morning to the sound of thunderstorms. Since nature woke me up, I had to think at first what day it was and then realized that I am scheduled to run this morning. While I was eating my banana and almond butter, I turned on the TV to hear the weather for today. Luckily the storms from early this morning were passing through the area. The run is on.
As I got to the starting point of our run, I saw Megan (the one without the spouse) and she told me that our pace leader, the other Megan was sick and couldn’t be there for our run. Our other group leader, Sarah, had told us last week that she wouldn’t be running without this week. Our regular site coordinator wasn’t there today so we were on own to fend for ourselves. Once we had our pace group gathered, Megan and I decided that we would act as the pace leaders since I had my Garmin with me and would be able to check the watch for our pace times and distance.
During our 5 mile run, we had to dodge various puddles along the way that were an aftermath of the storms this morning. At least the standing water wasn’t as stinky as it was last week. Since I am trying various sport gel type products for my runs to determine what I like best, I had an orange chew today at the water stop. I think I like the chews better since the GU is kind of messy and you can’t save it for later unless you keep it in a plastic bag. I know this because I got the GU smeared on the inside of my belt when I wanted to save some for later during one of my weekly runs.
Overall, I felt good during our run today. I hope that our group leaders are back next week. Pacing for the 5 miles was okay but I don’t think I would be ready to pace the 9 miles next week. I can’t believe that I am going to be running 9 miles next week. This is definitely breaking new ground for me.
After the run this morning, I told my son that we only did 5 miles today. If you told me a year ago that I would be running 5 miles and think nothing of it, I would have thought you were crazy. It is amazing what your body can do if you keep on pushing it a little further each time you are out there.
I had an appointment late this morning to look at some apartments with a realtor in Rogers Park. Since I wasn’t having any luck finding apartments along the Brown Line, I thought I would change up the location. The first place that we saw was too small for all my stuff so the realtor said it didn’t make sense to look at the second apartment since the room sizes were even smaller.
After talking to the realtor, I can’t have all the things I want with the amount of money I want to spend so I am going to have to compromise on some things. Finding an apartment is not as easy as I thought. I am spending way too much time online looking at apartments. This apartment search has become an obsession and will last until I find a place. I feel my life is on hold until I am settled in a new place. What I did realize is that I like being in East Rogers Park by the lake. There is a path by Loyola Park that I can run on; because it’s all about running for me.
