As an early birthday present to myself, I bought a Garmin Forerunner to wear when I run. At the kickoff for the Half Marathon training, it was advised that we get some type of watch to monitor our pace. I have been thinking about getting one of these devices for awhile but didn’t know which one to get. When I was at the mid-week group run last week, one of the pacers had a watch which caught my eye since I could read the numbers without my glasses. I asked her what kind it was and the price. By searching the internet for the watch, I was able to get one at a good price.
Yesterday the watch came and I was ready to figure out how to use but I needed to charge the watch for 3 hours. This is a new concept for me, charging a watch. Going in to work today, I read some of the manual to get the basics of the watch. This watch has many features and software so you can get really geeky with the watch. I have a feeling that this watch can take on a life of its own.
I decided to do the group run at the same place as the Saturday run. For the run, I decided to wear the watch and see how it worked when actually running. The main display tells you the amount of time you have run, the distance you have run and your mile pace. This is all very exciting to me. I have such a bad sense of distance that I have been limiting myself to running only where there are mile markers so I am sure to get the right amount of miles in. I now have freedom to run anywhere and know how far I have run with my new toy.
